Gabriela Varela Lacier graduated with a degree in Film, TV and Video Production from the University of La Plata in 2004, and a year later completed a teaching degree in Audiovisual Communication at the same university. She started out in advertising before moving into film, theater, and television. She has worked in over 18 feature films, serving as a costume designer. She also worked as a set designer, and in one of her latest films, she ventured into art direction. She has her own clothing production company, Gabstudio , which has a large inventory of garments and space for fittings. In 2022, she won the award for Best Costume Design for the film "Karnawal" at the Silver Condor Awards. She was also nominated for a Sur Award for her co-design with Pheonia Veloz for the mockumentary "La Estrella Roja" for the second consecutive year. She was also nominated for "La Fiesta Silenciosa" in 2021.
